I adore Michelle Obama. I think she's the best first lady since Rosalyn Carter and Jackie Kennedy. She's stylish, she's smart, and she's down to earth.

I will tell you a dark secret about myself. When I was in junior high, back in the early 1960s, I wanted to be a Shirelle. And then the Supremes got big and I wanted to be a Supreme. Two of my little white girlfriends would practice Supremes songs on the playground together everyday with the moves and everything, and the black girls, who always hung together, laughed their butts off at us. They thought we were completely insane. I saw the Shirelles about 10 years ago on a double bill with the Coasters at an Indiana county fair, and they were absolutely awesome, even all these years later.

Anyway, so Michelle Obama, for me, nerdy white girl in Michigan, is a dream come true, it's like having one of the Shirelles in the White house, only with a law degree and a supercool husband.

I hope that wasn't an offensive story. Your post on her clothes and all--I mean, for girls, the Shirelles had that nailed in the 60s. No white woman approached their coolness. God they got to wear sparkly dresses ALL THE TIME.
