The USDA Graduate School was founded in 1921 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It is now referred to as the Graduate School because it no longer has any ties with the USDA. The Graduate School is located in Washington, DC with regional campuses located around the United States. The school became an independent educational institution on February 2009. They have over 200,000 participants per year.
G.S. is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education and is also able to grant Associates Degrees in certain curriculum areas. Graduate Schools’ stated mission is to “develop people and to make government more efficient and effective by offering a wide variety of classes and programs, ranging from government-based specialties such as governmental accounting and auditing, human capital management and acquisition to foreign languages, economics, leadership and landscape design.”
Distance Learning is allowing new opportunities for those that are unable to go to campus, attain their degree or certifications online. Many of Graduate School’s distance education courses are recommended for college credit transfer by the American Council on Education.
