What’s so great about October? If you asked me, I’d say the cool, early morning and late evening breezes. For the past 5 or 6 months, the heat in my city has been unbelievable. But so far this month, I have gotten a little relief… the overnight temps call for a light sweater.
Other people might say that they like the October trees. In October, the trees turn beautiful shades of red, brown and orange. While I agree that the colorful trees can be picturesque, I don’t care for October trees.
Why not? Cause for me… it creates too much work. I have 4 trees in my front yard and 3 in the back. Two of those are huge oak trees. Trees in October equals dead leaves all over the lawn. Oak trees in October equals dead leaves and acorns all over the lawn. Cleaning up after 7 trees is not my idea of a good time.
My children also dislike October trees. For them, this means that their Saturday mornings no longer means sleeping in late or watching cartoons. Their Saturday mornings are now devoted to raking leaves, raking acorns, and more raking leaves.
But yet still, the kids love October because at the end of the month they receive a little reparation in the form of Halloween treats. My daughter (6 years old) loves Trick or Treating. And my son used to look forward to it too. But now that he is gotten older (14), the take from Trick or Treating no longer excites him.
Last year while my daughter and I went Trick or Treating… my son and the DH stayed home to pass out goodies. But this year, my son asked if he could do something more thrilling. My son suggested that we go to Kings Dominion again.
We went to Kings Dominion amusement park a couple of summers ago and had a great time. But Kings Dominion is 1,000 miles from us… there is no way we can travel 1,000 miles from home during the middle of the school year. So Halloween at Kings Dominion won’t work for us this year. We will have to find something a little closer to home. However, if you are near the VA or DC area… spending Halloween at Kings Dominion may be a great idea.
Every weekend during the month of October, the park hosts its Halloween Haunt. They have several Scare Zones, spooky Mazes, and wicked stage Shows. These serve to frighten the big kids (13 and up – parents included). And to shake up the little kids… they have some less hair raising attractions such as a Talking Pumpkin Patch, the Foam Pit and a Meet & Treat.
