The first involves a flat 5% rebate on purchases made within specific announced categories.  Every three months, Discover announces the category to which the rebates will apply.  So far, they have been strong, popular options like travel and gasoline purchases.  You can earn up to 1% for your other general purchases (the percentage varies based upon your total annual use).
